I am a big fan of surrealist artist Frida Kahlo.
I didn't discover her work until I was an adult and had left school (although I did hear of her husband Diego Rivera).
Somehow, I had stumbled upon her painting "The Broken Column" and it spoke to me. Loudly.
Several years later, while reading Rebecca Wests "Survivors in Mexico" did I learn anything about Frida Kahlo.
Briefly, Frida Kahlo suffered a near-fatal accident and spent the rest of her life trying to live with the aftermath of not dying. Her paintings express that. She had an amazing talent for making her pain beautiful.
If you are unfamiliar with Frida Kahlo's works, I suggest you take a look here. La Casa Azul is a bucket list destination of mine.
