Snakes

I am not fond of snakes.

Kind of a bummer as a landscape photographer.  Part of the job description is to enter into places that snakes live, and although the only poisonous snakes in the area let you know where they are by the way of a rattle, any snake will cause me to run away screaming like a little girl.

My preferred method of snake avoidance is making noise on the trail, which seem to limit my contact with them.  This is also part of the reason that I am not a wildlife photographer, I make too much noise. The other snake avoidance trick is to make my husband go first on the trails (he is not afraid of snakes, and doesn't hesitate to move them from the trail if they don't move by themselves, he is such a nice guy)

The snake fear hasn't stopped me though, I still get out there.

A Note From the Road: In the Garden - Dahlia in the Rain - Bella Vista, Arkansas

Dear Henry,
It has been raining buckets here today, but for a brief moment it stopped and I was able to run outside to take pictures of the raindrops.
I love how the dahlia turned out, I think I am going to make an art print out of it.

A Note From the Road: Road Trip Missouri - Shoal Creek, Joplin Missouri

Dear Henry,
Rock stacking has become such a trend and you can't seem to go anywhere without finding one.
Apparently, there is some controversy about them.  Traditionally, they were used for cairns and as trail markers, but now, they are just an outlet for creativity.
Technically, they violate the "leave no trace" rule, but, I am inclined to accept them, at least, in areas that this one was found.
This was "inner city" nature spot and placing one here is really no big deal and they are often quite pretty.   But, within in the trail systems, particularly backpacking trails, I disagree with their placement. In those scenarios, they should be only be used in the traditional sense, although now, a backpacker can no longer rely on them.
What do you think?

A Note from the Road: Road Trip Nevada - Naked Strip - Las Vegas Blvd - Las Vegas NV

Look, Mom! No cars!

Some months ago I had made plans to run the Las Vegas Rock and Roll half marathon just to get this picture Mom.
Due to some unforeseen training issues (otherwise known as not training enough) I had to pass on running it.  We had thought to cancel the trip, but after #VegasStrong we made sure we came.
I was able to get the picture I wanted and I saw the race from the sidelines.
Next year!
