A Note From the Road: Road Trip Colorado - Screaming Trees - Hwy 491 - Mesa Verde Colorado

The trees still look mad.

Screaming Trees - Hwy 491 - Mesa Verde Colorado - a.d. elliott

I have been messing with these pictures for a while Mom,

and I can't seem to get them right.  Between 1996 and 2003 there were several fires at Mesa Verde and a lot of the bristlecone pines burned.

I have seen quite a few fire scars but this one struck me as odd, all of the trees looked mad.  Really mad.  I still don't think I captured how eerie it was on that plateau surrounded by angry trees, but it was quite the humbling experience.

A Note From the Road: In the Garden - Dahlia in the Rain - Bella Vista, Arkansas

Dear Henry,
It has been raining buckets here today, but for a brief moment it stopped and I was able to run outside to take pictures of the raindrops.
I love how the dahlia turned out, I think I am going to make an art print out of it.

A Note From the Road: Road Trip Missouri - Shoal Creek, Joplin Missouri

Dear Henry,
Rock stacking has become such a trend and you can't seem to go anywhere without finding one.
Apparently, there is some controversy about them.  Traditionally, they were used for cairns and as trail markers, but now, they are just an outlet for creativity.
Technically, they violate the "leave no trace" rule, but, I am inclined to accept them, at least, in areas that this one was found.
This was "inner city" nature spot and placing one here is really no big deal and they are often quite pretty.   But, within in the trail systems, particularly backpacking trails, I disagree with their placement. In those scenarios, they should be only be used in the traditional sense, although now, a backpacker can no longer rely on them.
What do you think?

A Note from the Road: Road Trip Nevada - Naked Strip - Las Vegas Blvd - Las Vegas NV

Look, Mom! No cars!

Some months ago I had made plans to run the Las Vegas Rock and Roll half marathon just to get this picture Mom.
Due to some unforeseen training issues (otherwise known as not training enough) I had to pass on running it.  We had thought to cancel the trip, but after #VegasStrong we made sure we came.
I was able to get the picture I wanted and I saw the race from the sidelines.
Next year!
